In April 2026, China issued new Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for industrial blowers (GB 28381-2026), set to take effect on April 1, 2027. The revised standard raises MEPS requirements for market entry by at least 5%, and is projected to deliver a cumulative reduction of 106 million tons of CO emissions by 2040.

The updated standard also expands its product scope to include maglevbearing blowers, paving the way for market transformation and development of standards for blower motordriven units (MDUs). This revision marks an important step in the performance upgrade for industrial fans, one of the two major types of airhandling equipment in the industrial sector.

CLASP worked closely with CNIS and external experts to provide technical assistance on international best practices, comprehensive market analysis, and targeted policy recommendations. This collaboration contributed directly to the inclusion of maglevbearing blowers in the MEPS and the strengthening of the minimum efficiency requirements.
